First thing:

I’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who came to our contest on Saturday and helped make it a huge success. The few pieces I was able to watch yesterday were amazing, and I hope everyone was able to leave proud of all the hard work they’ve put in this season. I’d like to thank the other CR Wash coaches, Carol and Jeff White, Kara Sulzer, and Carrie Tinkham for all their hard work yesterday. Also I cannot thank our volunteers enough, but I’ll add a thank you here.

What did I get again?:

You can view the results here (I don’t plan on altering the Google Doc anytime, so these will stay up for the foreseeable future.) Also, I want to thank Anne Fattig, who lead our tab room and managed to get these up online in real time so everyone could view them online in addition to the postings in the gym.

The next step:

All-State nominations have been postponed until Sunday, February 12 around 7 p.m., because some state contests had to delay due to bad weather.When they are announced they will be posted on the IHSSA website.

Thanks again for coming to Cedar Rapids Washington for state speech. I hope everyone had a great time and a safe trip home!

Travel conditions

I know some of you are probably just about to get on the road. Sorry that I didn’t post this last night. Again, we are planning on hosting the contest as scheduled, however, your safety is our top priority. If your school will be late please call the contest office at (319)-558-2161. Carrie Tinkham and all our other assistants will be in the office beginning at 5:30.

We are closely monitoring the weather situation. We are planning on running the contest on time. However, it is very important that you and your students are safe. If you feel you need to delay your departure, we will fit you into the schedule later in the day. Please call the contest office at (319) 558-2161 if you have any concerns or updates for us! Carrie Tinkham will be at the desk in the main office all morning. Be safe!!

Hi everybody. We’re following this weekend’s weather closely. In the event of a delay we will be contacting KCRG and KGAN, the two media outlets out of Cedar Rapids. There will also be a post on our homepage here as soon as a delay is announced. Fingers crossed that this doesn’t happen. I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday! To reiterate- there is NOT a delay, this is just to let you know where to look in the event of bad weather on Saturday.

If you’re coming in from the south lot the gym doors will be locked, please use the entrance to the main building. Signage will be posted directing you to the main entrance.

Parking, payment, and one act lighting information

Parking

We will have parking available for busses on site, and some shuttle lots.

When the bus arrives please enter the circle drive off of Forest Drive SE. Busses/vans with equipment to unload will be directed to the proper door by parking workers. Passenger unloading will unload under the arcade/skywalk.

The students will enter near the gym where they may store their materials. General public, please use the main entrances- Off of the lot from the south lot and under the arcade/skywalk from the north lot. Update (1/30/12): It is easiest for commuting metro students to get to the gym from the south parking lot.

General public parking can be found on some of the side streets surrounding Wash if no spots are available in the parking lots. Update (1/31/12): Approximately 10 handicapped parking spaces will be available in the north lot off of Forest Drive. They are near the building and have a flat sidewalk leading all the way up to the main entrances.

Payment

We can only accept cash or check as payment for entrance donations, t-shirt and food costs. Please make all checks payable to WHS PPA. (Thanks for supporting Washington’s Fine Arts booster club!)

One Act Lighting

We will have a lighting worker available in both centers, they will be able to provide lights up and lights down. Update (1/30/11) We will also be able to provide a cable to plug a computer into the soundboard in the one act play centers.

Greetings Southeast IHSSA large group speech coaches. We’re excited to have you coming to the great city of Cedar Rapids this February for the state large group contest. This site will continue to have information added to it as we get closer to contest, including pictures of the centers, directions, a school map, a schedule (not available until after districts), and much more. If you have questions about the contest site you can contact the state contest e-mail. We’re still plotting out what centers will host what events, but as soon as we know they will go up on the web.
